What’s the buzz with Whitney Wolfe and Bumble?

Match Group, owners of the popular dating platform Tinder, has recently launched a lawsuit against a fellow dating site Bumble, founded and run by Whitney Wolfe. Wolfe herself never used Bumble, finding her fiance through mutual friends instead, but she shad stated “We have created something I would use.” Match group had tried to acquire Bumble last year, yet Wolfe had stated passionately that she would not give up her morals for founding Bumble. The app in question is a female first dating app, different from other sites in that the female is the one makes first contact with the match. After the early success of Bumble as a dating platform, two new platforms have branched off: Bumble BFF and Bumble Bizz. Quoting Bumble’s website, BFF is described as “the place where you can meet your new best friend, partner in crime, wing woman, workout partner, or anything else that strikes your fancy!” BFF presents a place where one can safely meet interesting people Bizz changes focus from romantic dating to professional networking. These aspects are perhaps Bumble’s greatest assets over their competition, in that they are not purely focused on finding romance, but rather open people up to all sorts of first contact. This way, those who are looking for a platonic relationship can find it, without having to use a dating site. Whitney Wolfe’s brainchild has seen incredible success in it’s opening half decade, and perhaps this is why Match Group has felt threatened by Bumble. But Bumble’s greatest contribution is what is has done for the modern woman. Traditionally, the man has pursued the woman in a romantic relationship. This app flips this predetermined notion of gender roles, improving self confidence in women, as well as letting men find women who are strong enough to make the “first move.” This new viewpoint on dating as a whole has shaken the foundations of traditional dating, and unless other platforms and companies innovate, they will be left behind very quickly as Bumble continues to win more and more of this market. Whitney Wolfe has created an application which offers a phenomenal background to dating, being clean and fun. It has already made a name for itself as a female first dating site, and will continue to grow under the leadership of Whitney Wolfe.

Finally met the queen @sarablakely and she’s EVEN better IRL 😭
