A Review Of Dr. Mark Holterman’s Journey To Being A Successful Pediatric Surgeon

Dr. Mark Holterman is a researcher, surgeon, and educator. In addition, the medical expert is actively involved in philanthropic activities. Dr. Holterman was born to a low-income family living in Wisconsin. His parents did not have a college education and made a living out of their farm. Mark’s academic prowess attracted the attention of his high school teacher, who was convinced that he could secure a place at the prestigious Yale University. He encouraged Mark to apply to join the college. He was accepted. Dr. Mark Holterman went on to study biology. He graduated with biology major in 1980 before joining the revered University of Virginia where he graduated as a pediatrician. Mark engaged in a National Institutes Health program that made him a medical scientist.

While at the University of Virginia, Mark met a young lovely girl named Ai-Xuan. She was a medical resident studying to become a surgeon. The two medical professionals fell in love and married in 1988. Ai-Xuan’s graduation from Texas Christian University had a significant influence on Mark because he started to develop a growing passion for surgery. Today, Mark is a surgeon. Mark worked at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center as a surgery resident before joining the University of Washington’s Children’s Hospital and Medical Center as a pediatric surgery fellow. His wife joined him in a similar position at the institution. The couple has also worked as research associates at the Clinical Research Institute of Montreal.

After twenty years of experience as a medical practitioner, Mark has enhanced his roles to include holding executive positions and being a faculty member at Illinois College of Medicine. Notably, he is the chief executive officer of Mariam Global Health, a revered investment firm. Moreover, he works as a pediatric surgeon for different hospitals, including Advocate Chris Children’s Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, and Children’s hospital of Illinois.
